About This Site

Japan has far fewer public trash cans than most countries — a fact that catches tourists and residents alike off guard. Convenience stores and train stations are sometimes the only option, and hunting for one while carrying a coffee cup or an empty bottle is genuinely frustrating.

Japan Trash Can Map exists to fix that. By combining community-contributed pins with open data, it gives anyone — visitor or local — a quick answer to "where's the nearest bin?"

Data sources & honest coverage note: Locations come from two places — community contributions by app users who pin bins they actually found, and selected data from © OpenStreetMap contributors (available under the Open Database Licence / ODbL ). Coverage is not complete — some areas, especially outside major cities, may have very few entries. If you spot a missing bin, please add it via the iOS app.
